I need to ride at Crystal Mtn, one of the few PNW areas I haven't skiboarded yet.

never been... would (absolutely) love to...
lot's changed over past 10-15 years. used to be all about mega-cities like new york, etc.
but i'm finding, hearing about, seeing lots of people move to the seattle area... having become a hub for business, culture, leisure, etc.\
seems like a place where you can still get high quality of life without having to get up at 5am and pull 12 hour days....

Yes you do! Do you have a beacon, probe, and shovel? If so, Crystal has some fantastic lift-accessible sidecountry stuff. If not, there's still plenty in-bounds. Look at the footage from the North Face Masters series from the last couple of years. Super fun, and even a fatty like me can make most of the hikes.
It looks like they may open super early this season. They put new snow-making capabilities in at the very top of the mountain (Wind scour has apparently been an early-season problem in this area), and the gondola means that they can open just the top half of the mountain as soon as they have adequate coverage. I even read a blog post by the owner's wife/ski patroller (her name is Kim Kircher) that they are hoping to open before Halloween!
I still need to come hit up your neck of the woods, too...

I literally just got a job but I am scrutinizing a Stevens pass as we spreak. drinking. I would love to hit up Crystal with some people. Matty, is that restaurant/road house still open in Greenwater?

I'm not sure about the Greenwater roadhouse. We always hit a place called "The Ski Inn" in Emunclaw. Pulltabs, cheap Kokanee, etc.
My buddy and I are doing the Summit/Alpental pass again this year. They have one option that includes 5 days at Crystal. Also getting a Stevens Advantage Pass.

They did! The last day we rode was late June, and to be honest the conditions were pretty beat up. Still, any day sliding on snow is a good day, and drinking beer at 5000 feet makes it even better.Maybe keep your eye on backcountry.com/dogfunk.com? My buddy and I both got our avy transceivers through them when they had a random mid-season sale last February. I haven't seen anybody else sell a new, in-the-box BCA Tracker DTS for less than $220 (we bought them for $215), and if that's not your beacon of choice they have the PIEPS, Ortovox, and Mammut ones, too.
One nice thing about Washington State is that areas like Crystal Mountain, Alpental, and Stevens Pass all have backcountry "gates" in their boundary ropes. On tracked-out pow days last season, we were still hitting lift-accessed stuff that was untouched the next day, and had some really fun, challenging lines. All of those ski areas also have free, public avy beacon practice areas with permanently-buried hardwired dummy beacons and even fixed probes to use if you don't want to risk damaging yours.

I have ridden Silver Basin a few times. Avalanche Basin spoke to me on a basic level, basically telling me to stay out, but Crystal's side country is pretty nice.

Matty, I request your presence when I finally make it to crystal.

What neighborhood is your job in? I live in Greenwood on the North side, which is nice and mellow, cheaper, and has decent access to everything except right downtown and Capitol Hill. -

Hey skiattle dudes, wanna shred on Sunday 5/6? I'm headed to your fair city and want to get my shred on that day. White Pass will be open. Alpental? Stevens?

You going to be in Seattle first?
-

I thought all of the resorts around here were closed by then but I'll double check.
I'm down for shredding even if it means hiking. Alpental is very close for me but I'm down for whatever. Also, I'd be down for meeting in the city for some drinks if all else fails.

Alpental, Stevens, and Crystal are all committed to being open that weekend (and in Crystal's case, through at least May 28th).
I'm already committed to going up on the 5th with my brother to celebrate my birthday. I don't know if I can go up on the 6th, too. The rest of family may throw me out if I don't make myself available to celebrate the b-day with them that weekend, too!
I'd love to at least get drinks, though. How long are you in town, shlarp?

Oops, my bad. I was thinking every place was closing end of April, not May....silly midwest people.
I'm going to be pretty hung over from a party on Saturday but I'll try and make it. Let me know what people are planning on.
