spent the past weekend on the Island, which is always fun to bring the pup. She literally follows me everywhere and hangs out no matter what I'm doing. My father and Law and I were building a beach hut from driftwood, took lunch break to sit down and eat, pup right there with me :)

It makes me smile every time I see it. Lulu (in the middle) got her first real taste of the lake this 4th of july. She's been slowly getting used to the water and we were finally able to spend a solid 3 days at the lake. She's fetching the dummy from the lake now and loving boat rides (obviously). Neither her or Charli will jump off the dock yet tho. They wont even follow the lead of Sophie (right) who's still a jumping fiend at 10 yrs. Baby steps.

One more. We put a chair in her kennel so we can hang out with her and she can get more used to us being around. She has now decided that it is her bed. Pic is bad cause it is through the sliding glass door. Didn't want to wake her.

did a hike with the pup this weekend. She loves it so much it's crazy, and I'm always amazed at how well she behaves off leash (too many strict dog laws in the populated area's around me).

I received word from my mom last night that Sophie passed away. They were at that lake, sophie was doing what she loved, chasing the dummy off the dock. Something caused her to struggle while swimming, and although she had been completely underwater by the time my mom was able to reach her, she was still conscious and breathing shallowly after they got her out. But it was sunday evening and our vet (which happens to be in the same WI town as the cabin) was closed, the partner clinic was 50 minutes away, back in MN. Spohie fought to breath in my moms arms all the way, they got to the clinic and put her on a respirator, but the water in her lungs was too much to overcome, her body basically started to shut down. There was nothing they could do but put her down.
I'm pretty bummed. I was there 10 years ago when we picked her out of the litter, I named her, she was the spark that ignited my love for pit bulls and a big part of why my wife and I chose to rescue two of our own. The hardest part though was hearing it from my mom, who's taking it pretty hard because of how unexpected it was and the ordeal of it all.
I've been thinking for quite some time now about getting my first tattoo. Before yesterday, I had decided that a tat related to my love for dogs was something I would be happy displaying as a part of me for the rest of my life. I haven't decided the exact details yet, but life pretty much decided for me that Sophie will somehow be incorporated.

vibes, man.
we got word recently that our bulldog, Otis, may have a brain tumor. he'd been stumbling around a lot, become slightly incontinent, and just seemed dazed sometimes.
we got him on some drugs to help against inflammation, and they've helped out a lot. hopefully he still hangs around a little while longer.

sorry dude for your loss. :( my heart goes out to any animal lover that has to deal with their pet/friend/family member getting older and moving on. Sophie looks super loved :)
