Looks like a fish on steroids -

in the same way that a malolo and fish ride like totally different boards, the fish and stellar most likely will too. that tail + real swallowtail and the different nose (much longer kick) make a significant difference. plus, its just a sick board.
ive been really liking my cobrasharks on my pow boards these last two days. rode the fish all day thursday and charlie friday.. im more of a cartel or even c02 guy when it comes to burton, and the cobrasharks are a softer binding in general, but at f3 forward lean (which is about the same angle ive been riding unions at) they were perfect. been shredding more aggressively and i like them a lot. enjoy...

is the hole in the nose where the rope goes?

Wow, never thought I'd read a snurfer reference. LOL

hole is for pulling the board behind when you climb, but I guess there are other reasons too. Like in skis maybe you can build a stretcher and pull it, or use it as an anchor.
taper seems to be 7mm
length from the tip to the start of the swallow is 155.
the rep told me length-wise it handles like a 150 fish.
nose is soft and the s-rocker is more mellow than on a fish.
that's all from me. it's bluebird and I've got a big mountain line to get to -
Posted 3 years ago #2011 Burton Stellar --> Hey yo - guess what I'm riding tomorrow!!!
i think the nose will be the big difference. definitely looks like less taper than a fish

handles like a 150 fish or a 160 fish? can't imagine it feeling 15cm smaller than it is, esp compared to a board that already rides smaller than it is

it's like a crosshair - to help aim the board straight down the chute ;)

I'm a believer in S-Rocker after having ridden my Malolo in UT all week in some decent pow - the float was awesome - so this must be better still!

Looks awesome. Almost all tapered pow board shapes make me wet.

how many cm is that setback?
-
Posted 3 years ago #2011 Burton Stellar --> Hey yo - guess what I'm riding tomorrow!!!
Not sure how much the setback is but it was the longest nose ever.
We were heading for a big line but got pushed back by insane winds, and had to settle for something more tame at a lower elevation. Still had a steep run with pow-like conditions (it was a bit chalky) with some wind scoured sections on the side.
First off, the Stellar is a really really thin board. It's also very soft. And super super light.
Obviously on ice and hardpack it's not so good as a meatier board would have more of a presence. But, since this is a powder board, it wasn't designed for those conditions. The nose is really really long and doesn't curve up like a fish. It goes out straight. It has s-rocker but it's more mellow than the fish. Graphics look great in the sunlight as the light reflects off the shiny pattern.
Alright, so how did it handle in the pow? Well, in 2 words, pretty sick. It attacks bowls and wide open pow like the fish ltd handles trees. I say 'attack' because this feels like you're riding a ginsu knife. It cuts through the pow at blinding speed. You don't feel like you're floating, it's more like you're hovering! Then you put your weight into a turn and the swallowtail sinks in and cuts through the pow super cleanly. It makes a nice spray too.Obviously since the swallowtail is actually a swallowtail, you can feel it more than the tiny one on the fish. Just looking back at the tail mid turn brought me to new heights of pow slash orgasm. Very cool. Like I said, the nose is super long and on groomers you notice it (when you look down - ha ha) but it pow it really felt like a shorter board. Well, you have the stability of a longer board and the agility of something a lot shorter.
At the end of the day I took it on some groomers and found that it ollies fine and nose butters are too easy ha ha.
Conclusion: this isn't your normal powder board. You don't buy this board to ride groomer traverses to small pow stashes. It's not for groomer pow days where it gets tracked out by 11 (unless you have lots of money that you don't know what to do with). This is like a lamborghini for pow. If you do cat/heli boarding or hike in areas where you get long powder runs then this board is a worthy investment. I think it was designed for Hokkaido powder - low angle deep consistent pow. -

Oh yeah, the cobra shark bindings were good too. They cranked down real nice, the capstraps fit perfect with my 09 ions and I had zero problems with them. They were a strap in and forget about it binding -> the kind I like. Let's me focus on snowboarding instead of worrying about gear

i wonder if the super mellow nose kick helps in low angle pow situations?

i'd think it would provide quicker nose engagement... based on that, i'd think that would help more on big open steeps, than low angle pow...

what is nose engagement?
i could see a case that a steep nose "pushes" more snow at lower speeds and low angles than a gradual flat nose, but i'm not sure if thats true.
