Honestly, if you're looking for an old beater that will be reliable, great in the snow and easy on the wallet you really can't go wrong with an old Subie. I use to own an 89 GL Wagon and to this day it's the best car I've ever driven in regards to commuting in the snow.

Not the prettiest thing in the world but still a great car:

that thing is horrid! haha but I am pretty sure if I hold out for a little while then I could find a "newer" subie for around my price range. Something like a '98 with maybe 130,000 miles would last for a good while, right?

Had me a 91 loyale with cheese...purchase it with 140,000 miles with a collapse lifter...put in a qt of heavy oil each oil change and finally traded it in with 190,000 mile..great car

I've got an A4 Wagon you can have for $3k. It'll cost about that much per year to run.

I would. As soon as it expired, it would be gone though.

It is a good car and I do like it, it's just the stupid little problems that always end up costing far more than you would assume. Even routine maintenance can be absurdly expensive if you can't do it yourself.

I was looking at picking up a WRX but then the conomies went to shit. I have zero debt and taking on a car payment seemed dumb at the time. But I'm once again thinking about it, I'd like for the Audi to go bye bye.

*Unless it's an 85. They had a 22r 4 cylinder (shame it wasn't the re). Solid front end. Two speed t-case. Manual hubs.
Everything else is a dog.

A friend has the Xt. Whatever the turbo model is, it's pretty nice. Interior leaves a lot to be desired though.

just watched jeremy clarkson race an rs4 up the verdon gorge. he said "better than an e46 m3, and they'll have to include the moon to make the e9x m3 better." dunno if that panned out, but that's some high praise. rs4 soo secksy
