An ignore feature could work / help, and might happen, but it's not going stop everything. I'm just suggesting that if something does occur, it will be moved to an area where it won't affect current threads. I'm not as much concerned with who has the last word, or what happens, I'm just trying to make sure that moderation stays at a minimum in the current threads and when the situation presents itself, it is continued in an unaffected area.

I think the tangents are fun too....but when off topic turns sour, yeah, yours might be a good stop gap measure until everyone goes off to lick wounds and return.

It happens on its own when people are WAY wrong or beaten hard by someone in a debate, and still does not admit to anything, then disappears for 5 or 6 hours or a day, then they come back and ignore that thread like nothing happened. Comedy at its finest.

Most people that carry on and e-fight a subject past the limit of a debate do it for attention whoring and to "look" like the winner. Someone mentioned that getting the last word is much more important, but I see from hanging around here it is more about attention.
So, moving a "debate" would just kill it in this culture.
I would rather have a ignore button for the douches that ONLY harass random people in this place (district, pk, contra, doc, dr.dre, junkshow). Theirs is the one liner back stabbing crap that really kills it around here. Most people can get on with a little debate, disagreement, and shake hands and move on. But not these guys.

i love it. so much for following "orders" and "growing up."

I don't think that only mods should do the nose-sticking-in thing, otherwise they would be overrun with petty cr*p and I don't think that should be their role. In our family (I have three boys) my wife and I hear our boys going at it a lot and we choose to stay out of it and let them sort it out amongst themselves. Often, the one boy not involved in the dispute is the one to tell the other two to stick a sock in it and bring things to a calm resolution. I guess I just apply the same reasoning here. I'm not sure if that is right or wrong.

I disagree with you. Mind your own business. Granted, what Doc said to you was inappropriate, but this is not your house so please don't impose your parenting methods on our public internet forum.

I don't like the idea of "the cage", but frankly in the back of my head I keep seeing a la-la-land solution where people quit fighting, which I might as well just acknowledge isn't going to happen. I think it has its merits but it's kinda like having a smoking section in a restaurant... it may be "put away" in its little corner but the rest of us can still smell it.
