We all talk about being lonely because everyone on the coasts knows each other and we're stuck alone in the middle of nowhere... maybe this will be the first step to fixing that. Everyone who considers their location to be in the "midwest", throw it out there and see if anyone else lives close to you. At the very least, maybe we can start a flame war over where the "midwest" really is.
I'll go first: Sioux Falls / Brookings, SD
South Dakota? oh, my friend, SD is a GREAT PLAIN state. i'VE always known the MID-west to be OH,IL,IN,MI,MN. HMMM. I'll count it though cuz' the bad lands are BAD ASS! I'm outside of Chicago and do nearly all my riding up in the WISCONSIN. Sometimes MN, and on rare occasion, MI. Were would you ride there?

I think every state that's even remotely close just assumes they're in the middle of it because the word has a nice ring to it.
We have a 200-foot mole hill in Sioux Falls (check out greatbearpark.com for a good laugh). I usually get to Mt. Kato in Mankato, MN once a season (not much better) and Terry Peak (good stuff) in the Black Hills for a couple days. Last season I spent a few days in Red Lodge, MT and I'll probably get to Big Sky or something this winter for a few days.

HELL YES! Afton Alps, Lufkin, sometimes we even get freshly made with that very unique powder-packed-hard feel. It's really not hard pack but far from groomed...
Yea, id count anything with snow between the mountains the middle. We have a couple very small hills here as well. But we make the drive to red lodge, or big sky as often as we can, especially if theres a storm rolling in.

I have been exiled to St. Louis, MO. for the last 4 years. it is as mid-westy as you can get. All I can say is I envy anbody that can just drive to the their mountain and ride. My riding consists of blowing off work, buying airline ticket,find shuttle / rent car, find lodge and finally get on mountain.

dekalb, illinois here ridin devilshead every weekend, colorado trips twice a year, tahoe, mammoth and big bear are always fun trips. at least 2 vacations a year, i do try to sneak in a third alot though, assuming the other half lets me go
