i think it's going to feel WAY more like camber. camrock camber is between the feet completely, i don't think you even stand on top of it, and it's crazy minimal. rome's hybrid is almost full camber but it hits the floor before the actual contact points and is kind of flat from there to the contact points, so yeah when you stand on it the contact point "rolls back" a bit but i don't think it's going to feel like camrock when riding.

i think paul says it's about 5cm? or 5 inches where it's flat. i think 5inches. anthem ss is one i'm considering.

for binders i'm probably going to get the new union teams in addition to my force teams i have now. i was also thinking about giving the force MC a shot maybe for the fish. but who knows. i wish the SL just came in black. the black atlas could be cool too for the fish.

i would say its just like camrock, when you stand on it, on both of them the camber is flattened out and the contact points are up off the snow, its just that on the rome when its not weighted it doesn't have any rocker anywhere

so the difference would lie i guess in the dynamics of the turn, at the apex of a turn both board would be totally reversed (maximum rocker or decambered) then at that split second that you unweight the borad between turns i guess the anthem would behave like a normal board, meaning the contact points would be oreinted down towards the snow, where as the yes's contact points would not be, but what i can't get my head around is that right away you would be weighting the board again, so the front contact point of the anthem shouldn't really be biting into the snow.

Fuck knows! If you listed every kind of rocker out there in detail it would go on for mny a page - i would say its a variation of the Camrock theme

Hey Dabra, where would the rome anthem fall in your discription? it is not rockered unless it is weighted, unlike the YES! which has rocker on both ends unweighted.

Das Blunt did you not see the pictures of my Yes i posted on the previous page? Pretty clearly demonstrates that it has camber between the bindings with rockered tips.

The Nidecker/Yes/Rossignol/Jones/Atomic/ and a host of others such as the Rome in this thread, and many 2011 boards all have a variation on this.

From what i can see there are the following

Regular camber

Minimal camber

Minimal Camber with rockered tips

Rocker between bindings ( Which can either be crazy or mellow depending on board/ company etc etc)

Rocker between bindings with cambered sections under/outside bindings

Flat base with regular tips

Flatbase with rockered tips

Pow boards with rockered nose, and pintail

yeah, the c2/NS and yes rocker sound similar because you read that they have both rocker and camber, but the rocker and camber sections are placed exactly opposite, comparing c2/NS to yes. both work toward the same goal though, of having the best of both worlds.

OK, that is better I get it. Subtle differences!

When I saw the Rome deal, my whole concept changed and I just lumped all the rockered boards together but then there are these 3; c2, NS and YES!, which are all still different (yet with some sort of camber), then the rome anthem.

cool...

think of this. flatkick is flat in the middle. the rocker starts up right after the inserts end (so.. right after the bindings), so the rider is not on top of it.. standing in the bindings, the rocker is still lifted up.

now with yes rocker, the rockered part is the same, but there is camber in the middle instead of being flat. make sense?

i THINK the camber gets pressed flat when you stand on it, but im not totally sure. id have to get that board in my hands again to see.

without being weighted there is rocker on the yes? And is the camber in the direct center between the inserts or split up?

no, the yes rocker does not have rocker in the middle. its literally the exact opposite.

c2 goes like this if you go from one end to the other: camber - rocker - camber

and the yes rocker (camrock) goes like this: rocker - camber - rocker

and yeah, you dont need to weight it to get the rocker. the rocker starts right after the inserts, so its free on its own, not under the influence of the riders weight.

oh, ok I get it Spencer. The banana rocker is different throughout the line, I c.

I would love to see the yes rocker. It seems like it would be simlar to the C2 just 'casue of the rocker in the middle. On the YES it seems you don't need to weight the board to get the rocker?

c2 and neversummer rocker are the same design. rocker in the middle, camber on the outside. yes rocker is the exact opposite.. camber in the middle, rocker on the outside.

v rocker and banana are the same basic design, yes, but they put different amounts into different boards. not all banana or v rockers are the same amount of rocker. its not a mistake; they do it on purpose. for example, the lando rocker was more mellow than the skate banana rocker, and there are other variances throughout the line.. and with burton, like i said, the hero (for example) has a mellower v rocker to it, whereas the hate v rocker has an intense amount.

the way you describe your rome rocker by comparing it to flat kick is more like yes rocker. flat kick is rockered, weighted or not. the rocker is always there, because you dont press it out when you stand on it. same with yes rocker, but theres camber in the middle. the rome hybrid youre talking about is different, because you have to press out the camber to get the tips up and create the rocker.

I am slowly getting a handle on it. There are not really that many, are there?
1. reg camber (old school)
2. rocker (v rocker, Banana, K2 gyro,)
a. Banana is VERY rockered from the direct center of the board, like a banana, lots of lift either end
b. V rocker is much more mellow lift on either end. There are many other more mellow rockers like V rocker
3. flat kick is just like it sounds, flat in the middle, little kicks of rocker on the tips and tail. Charlie Slasher is only rockered in the front and flat all the way back + taper (?).
4. S rocker starts the hybrid cambers.
5. Libe Tech C2, never summer's thingy, YES's thing. Real rocker from the center of the board out, with areas of regular camber near to the inserts; all of them are a little different.
6. Rome's Hybrid camber rocker is a little different as well.
7. please add to this list or correct what you see as wrong or wrongly described.

yes rocker is not the same as c2 or neversummers, its the exact opposite. camber in the middle and rocker on the ends. also, you cant really say banana is more rockered than v rocker, or vice versa, or whatever. there are different amounts of each on different boards. some banana is mellow, some is more intense. some v rocker is mellow, some is intense.. compare a hero to a hate v rocker.. hero is pretty mellow, hate v rocker is CRAZY rockered, more than any rocker ive ever seen. other than that, the only thing id make more clear is that flatkick isnt just at the tip and tail, it rockers up right after the inserts. "tip and tail" makes it sound like the rocker doesnt start till close to the ends.

I do not understand your first sentence, as I have seen both the C2 and the neversummer. I have only seen pics of the Yes! and it looks similar, more radical than both the lib c2 and way different than the NS. As I said in the end of the sentance, they are all a little different than the next.

V rocker is much less pronouced than Banana. Their rocker is the same; it starts in the direct center of the board and rises on either end. Hero was even less apparent than V-rocker.

Are you saying production runs make them so different?

Compared to V rocker and Banana, Flatkick is just what I described. The cool thing is on my Anthem ss rocker camber thing, the rocker is similar to flat kick except the flat part is replaced by camber. The rocker is on the ends just outside the inserts.

repost of mine

to be very general there are 5 kinds of rocker, and within each category there can be many slight differences

1. powder rocker

this is rocker just at the nose of the board, it may be used in conjunction with camber at the back (burton and romes s rocker/s camber) or with no camber (capita charlie slasher). the goal is to make the board float better and have the tip stay above the snow.

2. rocker at the points outside of the bindings. this is where the rocker starts out somewhere past the inserts and lifts the nose and tail off the ground, this can be used without camber (capita flatkick, burton fix for example) or with camber ( Yes rocker for example).

3. rocker in the middle of the board. this where the rocker is between your feet, examples are the burton v rocker (hero, joystick) and the bananas. this style of rocker is really varied, burtons v rocker actually has some additional rocker near the tips, the banana doesn't.

4. continuous rocker. this is where there is no flat or cambered spot on the board, the board is one big mellow reverse arc (example: forum chilly dog)

5. rocker-camber hybrids. this is where there is rocker in the middle of the board AND there is camber under the bindings/inserts. this is burton's flying v, c2 banana, and never summer recurve or whatever they call it.

all these types of rocker will feel/behave differently, and no two companies rocker is the same even within each category, and all boards feel differently anyway, so all this is very general.

when you are riding around, you are constantly weighting and unweighting the board, this happens in a turn, or a press or an ollie, you are constantly flexing and unflexing the board

what rocker does is it disengages the ends of the board from the snow (called the contact points), either all the time (the boards with continuous rocker, pow rocker or rocker at the tips) or just when the board is unweighted (the other rockers) and what it achieves is a looser, easier to press board that floats better in the pow as well

on a normal camber board the ends of the board are always pressing downward toward the snow when the board is unweighted, this allows you to set the end of the board and really drive through a turn, but it also makes the ends of the board catchier or the snow since they are always reaching down towards the snow in a sense

on a rockered board either those contact points are always trying to get away from the snow, or at least trying to do that when you unweight the board, the means the ends are "free-er" and easier to lift of the ground, and consequently makes the board feel looser and to some, much more unstable. the general consensus is that rockered board don't have the snap that a regular cambered board has as well. (not trying to paint all rockered boards with the same brush here though, how the board behaves is a function of its geometry and flex).

I think it is reasonable to assume the boards that a rockered in such a way that the tips are always raised up (category 2 and 4) would feel the loosest and the most unstable at speed, and the other types less so. the point of the rocker/camber hybrids is to have the ends of the board a bit more free via the rocker in the middle, but also attempts to preserve the power you can generate (the snap) and the stabillity by having camber under your feet. i personally feel that eventually this rocker will be the most common and prevail over the other kinds

hope that makes some sort of sense, i don't want people to take away from this idea that rockered boards are unrideable because of lack of stabillity or anything, its just that in general they are a less so compared to a regualr cambered board.

7. please add to this list or correct what you see as wrong or wrongly described.

hey JP, explain the designs of both....for reference sake (I could go look it up..but you are fun to read!)
This is the type of discourse we need here. Then someone can come in a read these opinions, go to a demo and it either make sense to them, or find something else works better for them.

Horrorscope = flat between bindings, rocker at nose and tail

Fix = zero camber, spoon tips

Its true what they say you can ride shorter reverse camber boards in pow with ease. Love both my boards, horrorscope is definitely more playful but I find it easier to land things with my fix.

its probably because youve got actual rocker on the horrorscope instead of zero camber, and its a lot softer so its easier to bend into a U shape than the fix.

I agree that you have to "ride" a v rockered or naner.

I only said it "felt" like it side slipped as a feeling. I could still rail the thing (v rocker).

The camber hybrid thing felt more shnappy outa turns I guess is how to explain it.

I hope you make it down for SIA doc. The on the snow demo will be super fun.

i don't agree with you that a v rocker board just side slips, a good rider should be able to carve any board 9almost) by adjusting technique. i would have to ride one of these anthems to really see how it works

Grabby like a regular camber board? hehe. well yeah, it hooks up really good in a turn if that's what you mean. In and out of a turn you are weighting and unweighting a part of the board at a time, so its not as "closed door, open door" as you mentioned.

Unlike a rockered (V rocker) board which basically feels like it sideslips down the mtn unless you really rail on it. Flat kick, with the rocker in the front and flat in the back is cool, really quick edge to edge, but a little lifeless feeling. In pow it seems this would be the best option, or S rocker.

yeah no i get it, but when you're on it (weighted) the tips lift up, so when you're on it during a turn, the tips are lifted up, it seems like it would be grabby as at that moment at the end of a turn and you unweight the board to set up for your next turn the tips would be arcing downward again

The rocker is really pronounced on the C2 and yes without weight...from the pics above.

In contrast, the Rome anthem rocker only shows itself when you weight it. So, quite a bit different. Check the vid again..I watched it a couple times too..~
